WURD Radio and ecoWURD, in partnership with Bartram’s Garden, will celebrate Earth Day with a special live broadcast hosted by Charles Ellison on April 22 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Sankofa Community Farm at Bartram’s Garden. The event, “Food, Faith and Violence & the Environment,” will feature a conversation on the future of food movements in Black faith communities, as well as a roundtable with local leaders exploring place-based solutions and the intersection of sustainable use of green space and its impact on reducing violence in our communities.
Black Food & Faith Matters (Roundtable #1): Food and faith have been among the most powerful elements of connections to one another – from the land to bridging the gap in both survival and liberation. This conversation will explore the role of faith and spirituality in Black food sovereignty work from the perspectives of local Black faith leaders and farmers about ancestral connections between food and faith and the future of food movements in the Black faith communities.
Panelists will include:
— Rev. Heber Brown, Black Church Food Security Network
— Rev. Jonathan Ford, Taylor Tabernacle – West Philadelphia
— Annah Abdul-Ghaffer, Islamic Community Representative
— Rev. Carolyn Carverness – Ardmore Bethel AME
— Chris Bolden-Newsome – Farmer | The Sankofa Community Farm @ Bartram’s Garden
Violence & the Environment (Roundtable #2): This conversation with local leaders in this space will explore place-based solutions and the intersection of sustainable use of our environment and its impacts on the reduction of violence in our communities.
