MIT professor and housing equity expert Justin Steil joined ecoWURD on Reality Check with Charles Ellison to discuss the plight of fair housing and how it’s at the center of future racial justice. However, the quest for full fair housing remains elusive due to dramatic policy shifts and a lack of protections on the local, state and federal level.

“We made some progress on discrimination in housing and lending, even though it’s distressingly common still,” said Steil. “It’s more than just a place to sleep or a place to live in, but, the location of a home is a powerful predictor of a person’s quality of life and life chances. How do we ensure that, regardless of income, that people have access to the housing and schools they need to achieve maximum opportunities?”
